Teaching propaganda alongside Animal Farm is easy to do as pure analysis — identify the techniques Squealer uses, write a paragraph about it, move on. What I wanted was something that ended with students actually using the techniques themselves, on an issue they picked, so the analysis had somewhere to land besides a five-paragraph essay. I couldn’t find that combination built as one unit, so I put it together.

Students pick a social issue they actually care about, research it properly, then design two to four real pieces of persuasive material — posters, social media graphics, infographics, whatever fits — and write about the choices they made to reach their audience. A student-friendly rubric splits points across design, writing, and presentation, and teacher notes cover picking appropriate topics and what design software actually works for this. It produces something that goes in a portfolio, not just another essay in a folder.

Animal Farm gives students the vocabulary for how propaganda works. This gives them somewhere to practice using it on purpose.
